About Us

We have been in operation since 1982. We are a Government licensed,
nonprofit corporation with the capacity for 24 full time children, ages
2-½ - 5 years. Our Nursery is located in and affiliated with the Island
Public/Natural Science School on Hanlan’s Point, Toronto Island. We are run by a Parent Board of Directors along with a fully qualified Supervisor and an Early Childhood Educator and an a part-time Early Childhood Educator, and an occasional teacher, all of whom implement and run an excellent Early Childhood Program. Our Program has been highly commended by Government Inspectors as well as by Program Consultants from the Toronto District School Board.

The Gibraltar Point Day Nursery the staff includes a Supervisor, one early childhood educators and an Assistant teacher. WIth more than 10 years experience the staff at gibraltar Point Day Nursery strive to provide a loving, nurturing and stimulating environment for each child.

Collaboration between the nursery teachers, kindergarten teachers, principal and parenting centre is well established. Joint professional development opportunities, regular meetings, and frequent informal conversation are ongoing. Sharing ideas and resources is extremely helpful in establishing a smooth transition and an intergrated learning environment.

Teachers role

Teachers role is to provide stimulating age appropraite learning opportunities for each children. Teachers are here to facilitate and stimulate children's learning, to make informed decisions about appropraite corriculum, content and assessment.

1. To develop age appropraite program that meet the needs of each individual child.
2. To observe, assessing and evaluate.
3. Provide set appropraite goals for each individual child.
